The story goes back to 1960s when a cold war between US and Soviet Union was at peak and both of them were competing in the war of supremacy. Among all of these, there was a race towards space exploration. Both countries were looking to be the first to land on Moon. The then US president John F Kennedy made the biggest declaration of the decade that US will be the first country to land on Moon before the end of 60s decade. The timeline and task were drawn on the table. Now it boiled down to WHO WILL BE FIRST?
Not digging deeper into the idea, planning and implementation that led to execution of Apollo 11 mission, let’s indulge on what has been termed as conspiracy, post the success of Apollo 11 landing on Moon.
Apollo 11 Success Story
It was on 16 July 1969, when Apollo 11 took off from Kennedy Space center on a Saturn V ROCKET LAUNCHER, the largest so far with a payload of 130 tonne. Apollo 11 had to travel around half a million Kilometers to enter the lunar orbit. It took the space craft approx 4 days to cover the distance and land the Lunar Module (also known as Eagle) on the Moon’s surface.
And it was 21 July, when Neil Armstrong became the first person to land on the surface of the moon. During their stay of 135 min on moon’s surface, Neil Armstrong and his co-pilot Buzz Aldrin took several pictures of themselves and the Moon and gathered around 21 Kilogram of Lunar particles for further studies.
The moments captured were made LIVE on television across the country and each countryman had their moment to rejoice with the success of NASA which made the nation proud. But the world had a different story to say and the whole mission was termed as a conspiracy. There were allegations that NASA, at that time, did not have any capability to fulfill such mission and the pictures taken of Moon were fake and shot in a studio. The NASA faked the complete mission to prove their competency in a race of space exploration ahead of any other country, especially Soviet Union. There were several claims made which proved that the mission was a fake one.
Apollo 11 Conspiracy Theories
Fluttering of Flag: It is said that Moon has no atmosphere and wind. The Picture taken completely shows that the US flag fluttering was claimed as fake and was filmed in a studio.
Picture of Buzz Aldrin: It clearly shows Buzz Aldrin’s helmet ,reflecting picture of the Lander EAGLE and Neil Armstrong but no such Camera is visible which captured the image.
Stars in the Sky: As we look up to the sky, we can see huge numbers of stars. But all the pictures taken during the Apollo 11 mission do not show a single star. It is claimed that all the pictures were filmed with a black background.
Shadow of the objects: There is a single source of light on the Moon which is Sun. As such the shadow of every object should be on the same direction. But every picture had different story to say. The shadows were facing different directions in most images.
Footprint on Moondust: One of the image shows a firm footprint mark on the moon’s surface. However, it is claimed that with Moon’s hard surface and lack of moisture, the footprint will not preserve.
There are several other theories which claim that the Apollo 11 mission was fake. But NASA had their counter arguments for the conspiracy theories and vehemently claimed to have successfully fulfilled this mammoth task that had taken USA a notch higher in the world map !
